The Lancashire Archaeological Society AGM and Members’ Evening will take place on Friday 15th January at 7.45pm, at Fulwood URC. Please note that our long-standing member David Swindlehurst, will be standing down from the committee at the AGM so we urgently need a new committee member. Please think about putting yourself forward – in particular, we desperately need someone with IT skills.
As usual, the AGM will not take long, and then we will have our usual short talks from members and others.
This year, our first talk will be from Robert Smith, a student at UCLan, who has been researching in Arran and Kintyre (we gave him a grant from the Ben Edwards Fund). Then we hope to have Derek Forrest, a member of the Roman Army re-enactors, the Ermine Street Guard, who will enlighten us about some aspects of Roman army life. Then Bill Shannon will give an account of some ‘experimental archaeology’ he has been doing, involving beach flints, birch tar – and an atlatl. We have time for at least one more short talk, if anyone has anything they would like to share with us – say ten to fifteen minutes. Can everyone also feel free to bring along any interesting artefact to show.
