First, the Beyond the Castle project at Lancaster’s Castle Hill
Twelve days of archaeological excavation re planned this summer, with opportunities for volunteers to help out with the dig – previous experience not required.
Friday 27th May 2 – 5 pm View finds from this and previous excavations with Finds Officer Dot Boughton (Lancashire Museums Service)
Sat 28th May 2 – 4 pm Meet a Roman Soldier and learn about life in the Roman Army; children must be accompanied, no charge.
Sat 28th May 2 – 3 pm Tour of the excavation site with the lead archaeologist Jason Wood.
Tuesday 31st May 2 – 3 pm Tour of the excavation sit with the lead archaeologist Jason Wood Daily 5 pm Review of the day for the site team/ volunteers; the public can listen in.

Next, Free Training in Documentary and Archaeological research
The Morecambe Bay Partnership are organising training days for research on the Glasson/Cockerham area, at Thurnham Village Hall on 28th May and 4th June. Details here
There is also an opportunity to come and get involved in Geophysical survey at Jenny Brown’s Point – details not yet available, but the link is here
Finally, please note the new opening hours at Lancashire Archives, from 4th July 2016. The hours are reduced from 42.5 to 30 hours a week – but note late night opening on the second Tuesday of the month.
Tuesday 9.30-5.00 – open until 7.00pm on the second Tuesday of each month
Saturday 10.00-4.00 on the second Saturday of each month only
